Plot Summary
Returning home to a small town in Montana for her high school reunion, filmmaker Kimberly Reed hopes for reconciliation with her long-estranged adopted brother, Marc. But along the way she uncovers stunning revelations, including his blood relationship with Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth, intense sibling rivalries and unforeseeable twists of plot and gender that forces them to face challenges no one could imagine. Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival, Best Documentary Jury Prize at NewFest, and Special Jury Prizes for Fearless Filmmaking at the Florida Film Festival and Bravery in Storytelling at the Nashville Film Festival, Prodigal Sons is a raw and provocative examination of one familyís struggle to come to terms with its past and present.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A film that will fascinate inquisitive viewers on multiple levels.
Fresh: At the heart of Prodigal Sons, a family drama in the form of a succinct, eloquent personal journal, is a sibling rivalry whose reverberations touch upon the very essence of human identity...
Fresh: Sometimes we forget that when documentary filmmakers begin a project, they don't always know what they'll be filming because, to state the obvious, real life doesn't work from a script.
Fresh: The problem with family-diary documentaries is that some families have too much drama for just one movie.

interesting
I found this to be a very well done documentary, shocking and upsetting in parts. LOVED Kim and would really have preferred to know more about her life and transition without the focus of the brother, yet obviously that is not what this piece is about.
It was very balanced; informative without telling all, explosive without that being the overwhelming factor of the documentary.
I look forward, hopefully, to more good work from Kim .
Forlorn
This sad, but very real and disturbing documentary can be somewhat depressing.
