Plot Summary

According to many authorities, since the late 1950's subliminal content has been tested and delivered through all forms of media, at an increasingly alarming rate. Programming the Nation? examines the purported uses, influences and potential subconscious side-effects of what's going on beneath the surface of advertising, film, music and political propaganda. This socially relevant documentary not only traces the history of this phenomenon, but seeks to determine the validity and potential threat that may or may not exist. Are we all part of an elaborate scheme which has been programming the nation? Decide for yourself... A FilmBuff Presentation.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A creaky parade of conspiracy and paranoia that collapses military brainwashing and suspected backward-masking in the recording industry into one indigestible lump. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Aug 18, 2011

Rotten: The film follows too many tangents, including film editing, sound and the purportedly evil effects of rock lyrics, to adequately consider any of them. – John Anderson, Variety, Aug 15, 2011

Fresh: Profoundly disturbing, as ambitious as it is provocative. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Sep 22, 2011

Rotten: The results are irritating, occasionally educational, and frustratingly insight-free. – Mark Holcomb, Village Voice, Aug 17, 2011
