Plot Summary

From award-winning director Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) comes the film inspired by one of the country’s most captivating and infamous outlaws — John Dillinger. Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean series) stars as the charismatic and elusive bank robber marked by the FBI as America’s first “Public Enemy Number One.” Academy Award®-winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) plays Billie Frechette, the only woman capable of capturing his heart. Hunted relentlessly by top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale, The Dark Knight), Dillinger engages in an escalating game of outrunning and outgunning the FBI, culminating in an explosive legendary showdown. “It’s a landmark crime saga” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone).

Perfect!

This was the most flawless,action-packed,heart-wrenching,tear-jerking film I've seen since "Saving Private Ryan". Johnny Depp and Christian Bale don't portray their charactors, they become them, and keep you on the edge of your seat dying to know their next move in a never-ending battle of wits and skills. A must-have for any one who's in search for the best of the best.

Great

Some reviewer said that you have to like history and guns to enjoy this movie. Wrong. I can barely tell a pistol from a shotgun and I thought this movie was awesome! I'm only 13 and i saw it with my grandpa in theatres. He, being someone who lived at the time, thought it was great, and me, being someone who likes a good movie, thought it was great too!!

Compared to the original Dillinger...

Johnny Depp doesnt seem to go to great lenghths to play Dillinger--a man who is supposed to be dangerous, relentless, and a vigillante for the people. Instead he plays a version of Dillinger that seems to be just a mere image of Johnny Depp himself, only with a tommy gun and a bounty on his head.
The movie itself doesn't really have anything interesting in it up until the last thirty minutes when you see the face off between Dillinger and the cops who have been chasing him for the whole movie.
...up until that point though it's literally just him being chased from one place to another by cops. The scenes change whenever Dillinger flees from one place just to go hide in another.
The script contains no meat and the actors play flat characters.

The only memorable scene aside from the last thirty minutes is when Dillinger walks into the police department that is in charge of investigating him, and he tips his hat to the cops who dont even recognize his face---even though its posted on bulletin boards all around the office.
That was pretty intense to watch, although I'm sure it never really happened despite the films praise for being almost completely historically accurate.

I remember seeing the "Dillinger" film made in the 60s and it was more entertaining than this by far.
This film really was nothing great in my opinion....but then again you might love it if you're really a huge fan of Johnny Depp or old fashioned cop and robber films, or just a historical fanatic as well.
If you watch it then enjoy.
If you don't then you're really missing nothing.
