Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: For sheer size, opulence and technical razzle-dazzle, Quo Vadis is the year's most impressive cinematic sight-seeing spree. – TIME Magazine, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: Quo Vadis is a super-spectacle in all its meaning. – Variety Staff, Variety, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: MGM's opulent version of ancient Rome circa 1951, with Peter Ustinov at his most whimsical doing honors as the mad Nero. – Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: It does last virtually three hours, and along the way does have stretches of tedium, but LeRoy invests most of it with pace, true spectacle, and not a little imagination. – Time Out, Mar 23, 2011

Great story - amazing movie - a must have for your collection

I have watched Quo Vadis countless of times and must say that it doesn't ages. If you are interested in Henryk Sienkiewicz novels, Roman Empire, or Christianity, Quo Vadis is a must have. The first time I watched it I was 9 years old, and was totally hooked to the story to the point that I am now a history lover. You will not be dissapointed with this classic - it is worth any money. I hope that helped.

expo′se of Roman decay

A skillful telling of the quickening of Christianity in the frame of Roman pageantry, executed before the digital age. Those armies and throngs are all human.

The best movie of all time

This is truly thee best movie of all time. I am not a great review writer so my words will never do this movie justice. What I have been amazed at is the rarity of this movie. It was made about the same time as The Ten Commandments, El Cid, and other Roman time epics. This is a full budget, full scale hollywood movie with many accademy nominations. Why the rarity?

It has grand scenes, thousands of extras, action, romance, good verses evil, suspence, sacrifice, the burning of Rome. Peter Ustinov masterfully plays Nero. Excellent writing, excellent acting, excellent lighting, excellent screen play, excellent story excellent costumes. I have watched this movie more than all others in my video library. Even though it is 3 hours long you will enjoy the whole movie again and again.

It is based on a book of the same name written in 1895 and ten years later the book recieved the nobel prize and this movied deserves the accedemy awards it was nominated for. My guess is the academy just couldn't get past their religous beliefs.

If you have seen the 2001 movie Quo Vadis "you haven't seen noth'n yet". The 2001 movie was just so so. buy and watch this movie and you will not be disappointed.
