Plot Summary

Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Joanne Woodward (TV's "Empire Falls" miniseries, "Sybil") was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of a frustrated schoolteacher in this beautifully sensitive, mature film about a lonely woman who tries to come out of her shell. Co-starring Academy Award-winner Estelle Parsons (TV's "Empire Falls" miniseries, TV's "Roseanne"), who was also nominated for this role, Donald Moffat ("Clear and Present Danger," "HouseSitter") and Academy Award and Emmy-nominee Geraldine Fitzgerald ("Arthur," "Wuthering Heights"). Directed by Woodward's husband, Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Paul Newman (TV's "Empire Falls" miniseries, "The Color of Money"). Based the novel "A Jest of God" by Margaret Laurence.
