Plot Summary
Loosely based on the infamous ‘Hedge Burners’ gang who plagued Melbourne, Australia several years ago videotaping their crimes, RAZOR EATERS is your front row ticket to an anarchistic rampage. First switched on in the middle of a home invasion, the RAZOR EATERS’ camera never stops running as their crime spree brings them into the city and its gritty surrounding suburbs. Their world is a twisted reality of snappy taglines and sportswear philosophy, where laws don’t exist and murder can make you a star quicker than Hollywood. As the gang start to attract headlines, they become worshipped anti-heroes by targeting all those we’d love to see “get nailed” — parking inspectors, corrupt politicians, filthy drug dealers, arrogant sport stars — the RAZOR EATERS punish the guilty and no one is spared! Hot on their trail is Detective Danny Berdan, a methodical cop not afraid of bending the rules to apprehend his prey. Initially underestimating the gang, Danny’s world is soon turned upside down as he attempts to juggle a relentless enemy, the hungry media, ‘fans’ at crime scenes and his own darkening obsession with stopping the gang. After the RAZOR EATERS discover his identity, they declare war on the taskforce assigned to stop them, paving the way for a thrilling, suspenseful climax. A gritty urban crime thriller, the RAZOR EATERS production became notorious in Australia. In a strange case of life imitating art, the filmmakers themselves also ended up on the run from the police, who publicly condemned the film’s subject matter and actively attempted to disrupt production! Fortunately the filmmakers were as determined as the gang in the film, and tackled their pursuers head on to emerge with a controversial and award winning movie that Film Threat described as “thought provoking… mind blowing, a stunning achievement in filmmaking."
