Plot Summary

When you wish for a son on the wrestling team, how do you deal with one who loves fashion, dolls, and pyramid formations? "I'm not trying to break the rules, I'm trying to change them," ten year-old Josh (Lurie Poston) pleads with the Mother Superior at his Catholic school. You gotta love this terrifically poignant story about an irresistably spunky aspiring boy cheerleader in Normal Heights, USA. Carrie Preston gives a tremendous performance as Josh's mother grappling with how to help her "artistic" son. Michael Emerson (Lost) stars as the gay neighbor.

LOVED IT and was completely surprised!

I just saw this movie yesterday at the Salem Film Festival (Oregon) and was taken completely by surprise. I picked it because it worked at that time period, but I'm so glad that film fate or whatever put me in that theatre. Though heavy topics at times, the tone of the film is perfect and easy. All of the performances were great, but Lurie Poston who plays the little boy was just terrific. I think by the end of the film all of the folks in the theatre with me were ready to sign up to cheer along with him. I hope lots of people take a chance to rent this. I'm buying it and can't wait to tell all of my friends about it. Also, Michael Emerson (of Lost) has a great non-Ben turn as the compassionate and supportive neighbor. I just loved them all !

Copy of the original

This is just a copy of the Anthony Mendel movie that was made 2 years earlier. Look it up online it is a lot better. The boy cheerleader was a lot better in the original.

13yo son loved it

My son doesn't want to be a cheerleader, but at least four times while watching this movie, he said it was an awesome movie. This coming from a kid into video games, anime & Doctor Who just validates how well the message was relayed that little boys (& girls) can grow up to be whatever they want and that parents just need to give their hearts and do their best if they're unsure how to be the best parents they can.
