Plot Summary

From acclaimed director Matteo Garrone, REALITY is a darkly comic look at Luciano, a charming and affable fishmonger whose unexpected and sudden obsession with being a contestant on the reality show “Big Brother” leads him down a rabbit hole of skewed perceptions and paranoia. So overcome by his dream of being on reality TV, Luciano’s own reality begins to spiral out of control, making for one of the most compelling tragicomic character studies since Scorsese’s The King of Comedy.

Dark comedy with a purpose - Italian Cinema at its best

Reality is one of those rare breeds that pulls together an interesting story, a curious sense of humour, presents itself colourfully and gorgeously, and does so in the name of a generating a discussion worth having. It's well acted, deeply human, and entertains while it informs. It's the kind of film that reminds you what media is capable of, in more ways than one.

A must see, anti-Truman Show.

Not only is this film darkly hilarious, but it hits at the core of a serious obsession that we all have with how we are perceived. It flips the idea of self on its head and should be mandatory for the upcoming generation. The setting of a hazy and colorful Italy feels like the perfect aesthetic for such a tragic, broken reality.

Great Film

A very compelling film driven by strong characters. I was deeply invested in the struggle and the film left me with a lot to think about. Very strong film. Definitely recommend it.
