Plot Summary

Featuring Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings), Karl Urban (Star Trek), John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones), Bob Anderson (Star Wars), John Howe (Narnia) and Richard Taylor (X-Men). The Medieval and Renaissance blade, a profound and beautiful object handcrafted by master artisans of old. An object of great complexity, yet with a singular use in mind- it is designed to kill. The truth of the sword has been shrouded in antiquity, and the Renaissance martial arts that brought it to being are long forgotten. The ancient practitioners lent us all they knew through their manuscripts. As gunslingers of the Renaissance they were the western heroes with swords, and they lived and died by them. Yet today their history remains cloaked under a shadow of legend.

Whoso downloadeth this movie from iTunes is rightwise King born of all England

Not a film to be missed by those with even a passing interest in the sword, even if your only experience with the weapon has been on the movie screen or the printed page. If you're expecting a dry academic history, you'll be disappointed. Celebrities from Lord of the Rings chip in with swordmasters and historians who are passionate about what they do and, by the end of the film, make the viewer passionate about it, too. Makes me wish I had a school for swordsmanship in my neighborhood...

A programme that gets right to the point

Do you enjoy a good sword fight? Do you know there is a whole "culture" that surrounds the blade? This documentary, with commentary from all walks of life, helps you understand – and appreciate – the history, legacy, and nobility of the foil. Add to that the scenery, fine cinematography, and John Rhys-Davies' sonorous voice, and "Reclaiming the Blade" is an inspirational delight. If you admire swords and sword-play, you'll appreciate them even more. If you're new, or just a fan of a good swashbuckling movie scenes, you'll be amazed, entertained, and who knows, might find yourself out shopping for a practice blade of your own!

It comes and goes...

I read good things about this film, so I gladly payed the rental fee here on iTunes to view it ASAP. While the film was interesting, it felt extremely strung out; it teases you with intriguing bits and ultimately keeps diving far too deep into droll historic information. Each subject is highlighted as much as any other, which makes the entire film seem rather theme-less. Also, the first half is far better than the latter; and it has what I believe is a very poor soundtrack (in that it detracts from the movie in general).
