Rotten: If only "Red Flag" were funnier and tighter and had a sharper idea about what it means to blur the lines between self-interrogation and self-absorption.
Fresh: It's conventional stuff, only executed with a smart, improv-y verve.
Fresh: If it's all reasonably familiar indie-comedy terrain, it's delivered at a brisk, economical clip with plenty of laughs, and a series of running gags that keep getting funnier.
Fresh: Karpovsky's DIY know-how helps maximize a pint-size budget.

A wry comedy from Girls' Alex Karpovsky
Fans of HBO’s Girls will enjoy this wry indie comedy written, directed, produced by and starring Alex Karpovsky (who plays Shoshanna’s boyfriend Ray), in which he plays a filmmaker, recently broken up with his long-term girlfriend, who takes stock of his life while on a road trip to publicize his (actually Karpovsky’s) existential bird-watching film, Woodpecker. Bursting with charm, warmth, and truth, it marks Karpovsky out as a talent to watch.
