Plot Summary

Director Brian De Palma turns his lens on the Iraq War with this "fictional documentary" about the experience of U.S. soldiers involved in the conflict. Based on a news item about the rape of an Iraqi schoolgirl by wayward grunts assigned to patrol a checkpoint, the film depicts a scenario not unlike the one De Palma covered in Casualties of War. Shot on high-definition video, Redacted also addresses the ever-evolving manner in which war is covered by the media by focusing on such journalistic innovations as blog coverage and web reporting.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This film is kind of a mess. Even if you agree with its politics, you will probably weep at the ineptitude of it all. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Nov 17, 2007

Rotten: A crude, unbearably smug attempt to provoke outrage from a filmmaker desperate to be relevant again. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Dec 3, 2007

Fresh: De Palma is extreme, visceral, usually in bad taste but almost always riveting. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Where Casualties of War had the swooning formal elegance of an opium dream, Redacted adopts the fractured fitfulness of a seizure. – Geoff Pevere, Toronto Star, Nov 17, 2007

Horrible

This movie made no sense what so ever. Horribly innacurate showing U.S. soldiers act unbelievably stupid. Couldn't even watch the whole movie how bad it was. STAY AWAY

A sick, sick movie.

A sickening movie from Brian De Palma trying to make a political point... nothing more, nothing less. Not worth the $2.99 to rent, not even worth an illegal download. I want my 90 minutes back that I spent watching this horrible film.

Complete waste of time

God this was awful. I have never been so bored by a movie before. Completely pathetic in every way. there is nothing to recommend here. Stay away ....far away.
