Plot Summary
In 2054, Paris is a labyrinth where all movement is monitored and recorded. Casting a shadow over everything is the city’s largest company, Avalon, which insinuates itself into every aspect of contemporary life to sell its primary export youth and beauty. In this world of stark contrasts and rigid laws the populace is kept in line and accounted for.

Rotten: The grim, dystopian world in this animated French film is the product of a computer technique that evokes the sharp, linear style of a graphic novel.
Rotten: No one will be talking about the movie's banal plot, the trite dialogue, or any of the indistinguishable characters who offer a bleak futuristic vision of cinema that's all style, no soul.
Fresh: It's a testament to the production design that one quickly gets caught up in the story without ever completely losing the "ooh-ahh" factor. Ominous, wall-to-wall music bolsters the appropriately uneasy mood, and the bittersweet conclusion is satisfying.
Fresh: Renaissance is a dark joy to inhabit once you jettison the idea of a satisfying narrative.

This movie is visually appealing. While it's dated, it's cool for its time. The plat can be a bit tricky to follow, but it's worth a watch. The background art is very cool.
