Plot Summary

In this tense, twisted thriller of passion and betrayal, two men face the decision of a lifetime. They had been three buddies, living the life in Malaysia, a life of drugs, sex and freedom. Sheriff and Tony return to America, but Lewis decided to stay on. Two years later, a lawyer arrives in New York. Lewis is rotting in a prison cell - sentenced to die because of them. The only way he can be saved is if Sheriff and Tony return to serve three years in a living hell. Tony is a successful architect, about to be married; Sheriff a cynical limo-driver with nothing to lose. Why should they care? One woman must do whatever it takes to persuade them they must care, and she only has five days to do it. But as the day of execution draws closer, no one can predict what fate has in store for those who stay and those who leave and Return to Paradise.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Though the clock ticks relentlessly enough to sustain the story's tension, the film finally seems to be a character study in search of a gripping plot. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Oct 4, 2009

Rotten: What if director Joseph Ruben didn't resort to B-movie suspense tricks? What if the fine cast wasn't saddled with a shamelessly contrived script by Wesley Strick and Bruce Robinson? – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Oct 4, 2009

Fresh: The real discovery ... is Vince Vaughn, who didn't make as much of a splash in Jurassic Park: The Lost World as he was expected to. Now he does. – Bob Graham, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Like Sheriff and Tony, we're pulled both ways by the story: We want them to go back and save Lewis, but we're not exactly sure we'd do the same. That's the Prisoner's Dilemma in a nutshell. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Wow!!

This is a very emotional, heart wrenching film! Keeps you on the edge of your seat! A lesson to all who chose to do unlawful activities in a foreign country. Eventually, you will have to pay the price if caught.

One of the greats!

I can't believe this movie slipped past me, this was one of the best movies I have ever seen!
