Plot Summary

When Kelli (Linda Cardellini, Freaks & Geeks, Brokeback Mountain) returns home from war, she expected to slowly but surely settle back into her life with her husband (Michael Shannon, Boardwalk Empire) and kids in the small town she grew up in. But she gradually realizes that the life she left behind is no longer there waiting for her. Depicting Kelli's struggle to find her place in a life she no longer recognizes, Linda Cardellini delivers a tour de force performance, leading an all-star cast that also includes John Slattery (Mad Men).

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: You admire these characters for their considerable resilience while understanding that even the best-intentioned people can break under the stress. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Feb 9, 2012

Fresh: With its modest scale and sharp observations, writer-director Liza Johnson's first feature has the quiet impact of a short story. – Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times, Feb 9, 2012

Rotten: Firmly in the unassuming indie vein, Return treads lightly and leaves little imprint. – Nick Pinkerton, Village Voice, Feb 7, 2012

Fresh: Johnson's feel for the rhythms of reconnection are steady, and she and her fine actors make "Return" one of only a handful of films to honestly address what to many is heartbreaking reality. – Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News, Feb 9, 2012

wow

couldn't think of a better depiction of what its like to serve in the military. this movie is depressing and when it ends it just leaves you so saddened to think that our troops have to go through things like this..its sad. but it is a good movie. definitely worth the rent.

Amazing Film

A sad but beautiful tale of a young woman that comes back from the war to find everyday life much harder than when she left. One of the best films I've seen in a while. Mark Shannon is fantastic!

Realistc

Excellent movie concerning the home coming of a GI , a wife and mother. I think that while she is away fighting for whatever, everyone home also moves on with thier lives. She has difficulty stepping into her place as she left it for she too has moved on faster than those left behind. She is a WOMAN now not a dishwasher , baby changer, clothes folder. One of the better movies I have seen in a while.
