Fresh: RoboCop is as tightly worked as a film can be, not a moment or line wasted. – Variety Staff, Variety, Feb 11, 2014

Fresh: Verhoeven's strong suits have always been visual energy and a Rabelaisan realism: a gutsy, jovial way of ripping through social systems. – Michael Wilmington, Los Angeles Times, Feb 11, 2014

Fresh: ...RoboCop is one weird and entertaining hybrid of camp and sci-fi shoot-'em-up. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Mar 7, 2001

Fresh: ...Verhoeven strives for bloodcurdling, darkly comic eloquence. He gives us heart with the hardware. Savagery with smarts. – Rita Kempley, Washington Post, Mar 7, 2001

One of the best action/sci fi/80s satire films!

I was 11 when the movie opened but couldn't see it until it came out on VHS. It was very violent, but I really dug it. Only when I got a little older did I understand just how great the film was on so many levels. Aside from being a great action/sci fi film, it was a great satire of the 80s and big business. But it also has a big heart, as RoboCop tries to remember his past.

Robocop Video quality

I have bought eight Video's from iTunes store all of them but Robocop were top quality video, almost like DVD Quality. Robocop video quality is equivalent to VHS, very poor, and I am very dissatified.

"I'd buy that for 10 dollars!"

Saw the movie at 12 y/o at a second run movie theatre with my Dad in N. VA in the winter of '87. While the polical and social commentary in the script eluded me at the time, I was totally blown away by the *intensity* of the action, violence and relentless pacing of the storyline. It was like getting the wind knocked out of me. For the uninitiated, this is the on screen viloence equivalent of losing your virginity. The overcast look of "Old Detroit" on the period film stock sets a mood of urban despair and chaos so realistically, you actually believe this place exists and that something should be done about it- now. Reportedly, due to pyrotechnic ordinances (Devil's Night, anyone?) in Detroit, almost the whole movie was actually shot in Dallas, TX. Kurtwood Smith found himself in the role he was born for as arch sadistic bad guy Clarence Boddicker, maybe one of the best bad guy characters ever. It's still hard to reconcile him with the grumpy but jovial dad on that inane "That 70's Show". Also worth mentioning is the fantastic (Oscar nominated) orchestral score tastefully textured with digital sythesizers by the late Basil Poldouris that goes a great way to making this movie THE gold standard in the Action/Sci-Fi genre.
