Plot Summary
Burt Lancaster gives one of the most memorable performances of his career... ...in the critically-acclaimed "Rocket Gibraltar." Lancaster stars as Levi Rockwell, a writer, professor, comic and lover of the sea, who is about to turn 77. In celebration of the event, Levi's four children and eight grandchildren return to his home on the idyllic shores of Saggaponack, New York. Featured as one of the eight Rockwell grandchildren is Macaulay Culkin, star of Home Alone and My Girl. The Rockwell clan is a close-knit family who share a warm relationship with Levi. But what begins as a joyful day marking a milestone in a man's life turns into a surprisingly ironic and moving event as the grandchildren honor Levi's most cherished wish. I never forgot this movie. Funny, sad, family, love, sweet. Very memorable.
Nostalgia
This movie was all about children watching the relationship their parents had with their father.It was the grandchildren who really had their ears tuned to their grandfather,and the fashion that he wished to leave this world.Not an ordinary funeral,and burial.Watch this movie,it will explain it all.Take a look at McCauley in 2003!I also enjoyed the music that the grandfather listened to through out the movie,it was very fitting and appropriate.Loved the Rocket Gibraltar!
One of Burt's last great films
What's not to like with Burt Lancaster and beautiful pretend movie family! It is the sweet sentiment that carries the story to the bittersweet end. An end in which someone's dying wish is actually allowed to happen, what more can you ask for in a modern script. The norseman's funeral is a noble end.
