Plot Summary

When teenagers from one of the nation's toughest neighborhoods in Oakland, California sign up to train for a marathon, they begin the journey of a lifetime. Runners High is an intimate, character driven documentary of struggle, courage, and hope. During a season filled with conflict and possibility, four of these teens bare their dreams, joys, tears and fears. As several stumble under pressure in emotionally charged moments, others realize the journey begins with the power and commitment to accept responsibility for their own futures. Runners High shows that no matter what happens next, one season of training to run 26.2 miles can change your life forever.

Inspiring

I found the story of the kids refreshingly real. Most kids do have a hard time being engaged now, with little support. Here, we got to see the sometimes not so pleasant but real challenge of growth. It does not look worth it at the start and we often want a prize like a trip to somewhere exotic...but what we get is less tangible and deeper. Sadly those things rarely inspire us in the first place - but to see it in action - wonderful.

Excellent, touching, inspiring!

This is a wonderful movie. Very heart-warming, and has lots of incredible moments... humor, intensity, poignancy, and inspiration. You can watch it with your whole family or cuddle up on the couch with your special someone and have a special evening enjoying this film. The kids are truly amazing and it is directed with a light touch so that the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of the kids really shine through.

I only have positive things to say about this movie and you should check it out! You don't have to be a teenager or a runner to really enjoy this film. I highly recommend it and it's a great example of what documentary filmmaking SHOULD be. Enjoy!

A genuinely moving film

I'm normally rather jaded and cynical, but this movie really moved me. The chronicle of these inner-city kids training for and competing in a marathon is genuinely inspiring to runners and non-runners alike. There is no contrived drama, just genuine human character, unburnished and compelling. I highly recommend it for parents, kids, and educators.
