Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Sahara is many things, but it is not a movie. It is the skull-splitting cacophony of 21 producers and four screenwriters (that we know about, anyway) standing in the same room shouting into their cell phones. – Jessica Winter, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: This one has everything: stereotyped characters, shaky camera work, absurdly inappropriate pop songs on the soundtrack, a confused tone, misplaced zaniness and a nonsensical story. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Eisner is not remotely up to the challenge. Spending millions on action scenes does not mean you get them right. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Let's hope today's 10-year-old boys aren't too jaded by Matrix reruns to enjoy this for the good clean fun that it is. – Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel, May 13, 2009

"...it sure is a lot of fun..."

Sure, Sahara isn't a stand-out movie. It's got average actors, an average plot, and it's pretty much your average adventure movie. But among C-grade movies it is great. It has humor, action, and even some scares, but most of all, it's fun. One of my best memories is watching this movie with some friends and just having a great time with it. Now, if you're looking for a 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' movie, you might want to try something else. It's not 'good' in a critical sense. But it sure is a lot of fun, even if you have to suspend belief and roll your eyes a couple of times. But hey, what do we go to the movies for? To just have a good time, and that's what Sahara is all about. You stuck-up critics out there who will pick apart anything and everything, just get away. Buy Sahara if you just want the perfect summer movie--lots of laughs and lots of blasts!
