Plot Summary
Toshiro Mifune furiously embodies swordsman Musashi Miyamoto as he comes into his own in the action-packed middle section of the Samurai Trilogy. Duel at Ichijoji Temple furthers Miyamoto along his path to spiritual enlightenment, as well as further from the arms of the two women who love him: loyal Otsu (Kaoru Yachigusa) and conniving yet tragic Akemi (Mariko Okada). The film also brings him face to face with hoards of rivals intent on cutting him down, especially his legendary rival Kojiro (Koji Tsuruta). The titular climax is one of Japanese cinema’s most rousingly choreographed conflicts, intensified by Jun Yasumoto’s color cinematography and Ikuma Dan’s triumphant score.

Good movie
Samurai II is a great movie on its own, and a fantastic movie compared to its predecessor. The first movie showed Musashi as a loud, angry idiot, who eventually was taken in by a lord and was made into a samurai. This movie shows the transformation Musashi went through to become a real warrior, starting out just challenging random samurai to duels to prove he's great, but later learns that greatness comes from NOT fighting. I like this movie, but the weakness is the love interest they put in. She is 1/3rd of a love triangle between Musashi, herself, and a girl he lived with in the first movie, and the main love interest just seems whiney compared to the second girl. Overall, though, it's a decent movie.
Find a Girl who enjoys this kinda a Flick
I sheepishly suggested this flick to a girl I invited over, and she loved it! It was a big risk, but I'm a HUGE fan of "Vagabond" the graphic novel by Inoue Takehiko. Which is based on the Same works of Yoshikawa Eiji's "Musashi". I enjoyed it thoroughly as with the others, but I must say it's a movie you can enjoy with the right company. Don't even bother trying to explain it to people who judge too superficially; because there's a deeper meaning if you know what to look for than just sword fights and bravado. Don't forget you need to get all 3 movies!
