Plot Summary
A disillusioned Musashi Miyamoto (Toshiro Mifune) has turned his back on the samurai life, becoming a farmer in a remote village, while his nemesis Kojiro (Koji Tsuruta) now works for the shogun. Circumstances bring them back together for one final face-off. Though it’s marked by a memorably intense final battle sequence, the rousing conclusion to the Samurai Trilogy is engaged with matters of the heart as well, as Miyamoto must ask himself what it is that makes a warrior and a man.

Great movie, but confusing without the other two
I own this movie, and of the three Samurai Trilogy movies, it's my favorite. The character Musashi is completely different from what he was back in the first movie. Instead of brash, headstrong, and arrogant, he's calm, wise, and quiet. His rival is also well played, and the end duel, in the time period before wirework and overlong fighting, was genuinely entertaining.
That being said, the movie lags a little at the midpoint, and there are a lot of references to the events of the second movie that, if not watched before, makes absolutely no sense.
Very Good Trilogy
Very good fight scenes and a good storyline. I especially like the last battle scene, which is considered the greatest samurai battle of all time. Its refreshing to watch movies about the samurai's. This trilogy to me, was the best. Musashi did a great job. His acting was outstanding.
