Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The dominant mood of the film is anything but funny. It is bleak and futile: What goes up must always come down. When it comes down in Scarface, the crash is as terrifying as it is vivid and arresting. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Jul 29, 2014

Fresh: It is a serious, often hilarious peek under the rock where nightmares strut in $800 suits and Armageddon lies around the next twist of treason. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Jul 30, 2014

Fresh: Performances are all extremely effective, with Pacino leading the way. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 29, 2014

Rotten: Viewed today, while Scarface seems less shocking than it did during its initial theatrical run, it's no more substantive or interesting. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Apr 11, 2011

The best movie ever made...

Finally, I have been waiting for this movie to be available for the longest time. This is the greatest gangster flick of all time. Now I can take this with me where ever I go and always have a movie to watch. I can't tell you how many times I have watched this movie and I never get tired of it. If for some reason you haven't seen it you really must take the time right now to do so. The language and violence are through the roof so for young viewers I do not recommend but WOW, what acting. You must purchase this NOW.

Der Film.

Thank you Apple! Best Movie ever!

An American Classic

A tried and true genre updated for the Over-the-Top 80s. This is indeed inspired the 1932 masterpiece of the same name, but to simply call it a "remake" is quite the overstatement. What we have here is an original story centered around a man who enters the world of the cocaine industry. It is an epic narrative that illustrates the rise and fall of a man who simply wanted to live the American Dream. Of course, homages to the original are placed in dialogue and some of the film's structure (quite nicely, in fact.) The entire arc is the perfect set-up for the ending; an explosive final scene that is full of potent emotion yet visually satisfying. The audience connects with the character of Tony Montana, even in his instances of violence and arrogance. And the ending may bring a tear to your eye despite its raging nature. This truly is a defining moment of the crime genre as well as cinema. **don't let the category through you off. it is more of a drama rather than an action movie.
