Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The latest installment of the slick, highly profitable parody franchise.
Rotten: A film composed almost entirely of jokes that were much funnier when you read them on Twitter years ago.
Rotten: [A] numbingly inane if cheerfully up-to-the-minute new entry in a franchise presumed to have breathed its last seven years ago.
Rotten: For the art-house crowd, who may, I suppose, stumble drunk into the wrong theater after too much Chardonnay, there are nods to Black Swan and 127 Hours.

A DUMB, POINTLESS CONTINUATION OF THE "SCARY MOVIES"
"Scary Movie 5," the latest installment in the once-successful horror-spoof series that no one asked for, is exactly what you'd expect it to be: a crass, lazy hodgepodge of dated pop culture references, disgusting sight gags, and stupid movie parodies that make zero sense. At this point in the saga, it's brutally clear that the writers have pretty much lost all interest in attempting to come up with anything close to clever or funny, so they've decided to take the most popular horror movies/franchises out right now, as well as a bunch of random films like "Inception" and "Black Swan" that came out three years ago, and squeeze them all into one seemingly nonexistent story. There's also pointless cameos galore from the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Snoop Dogg, Mac Miller, and Katt Williams, who are all pretty much just there for their paycheck. But the most perplexing star in this flick is Ashley Tisdale, who feels awkwardly out of place as she, along with the rest of the cast, struggles to find any ounce of humor in the dead-on-arrival script. But it's not her or anyone else's fault that the material here is so awful. It's just one bad pop culture reference after the next, whereas in the original "Scary Movie" flicks, the gags at least connected in a way that was fun and fluent. This movie, on the other hand, can't even get that one simple formula right, instead resorting to constant cheap slapstick even a toddler wouldn't find amusing. It's 88 minutes of random, repetitive movie-parodying nonsense that manages to make "A Haunted House" seem genuinely clever by comparison. Unless you get a kick out of stupid celebrity appearances, obnoxious toilet humor, and uninspired spoofs of dated blockbusters, skip this vapid, unfunny dreck of a "comedy" at all costs.
Beyond horrible
Not only should I have got up and left the theatre the first 5 mins, I shouldn't of even went to see this movie. I knew it wasn't going to be any good without Anna Faris. Dumb cheesy, don't waste your money or time.
Crazy bad
This movie doesn't deserve to be part of the Scary Movie franchise. I don't even think that the writer(s) and director knew what they were making because, being that the movie is called SCARY Movie 5, there a lot of movies in this that are not horror movies (Black Swan, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Inception, The Help, etc.) They also make fun of Evil Dead, a movie that came out one week before this abomination was released, which means that they didn't put much effort or time into this. And I think it's quite sad when a parody movie steals an idea from another parody movie. Yes, Scary Movie 5 rips off A Haunted House (the Spanish maid character). I can't believe I'm saying this, but this movie is worse than Movie 43. Without Anna Faris and Regina Hall, a Scary Movie installment doesn't feel like a Scary Movie. And with that said, don't waste your money or time on this. You'll be glad you did.
