Plot Summary

What personal tragedy helped inspire the creation of Superman? What pop phenomenon put Batman back on the cultural radar? What changes to Wonder Woman sparked public outrage? And what about The Flash, Green Lantern, JSA and others? So many heroes, so many stories to tell - stories of DC Comics' 75 years of challenges, creativity and triumph. This DC Original Documentary is both a compelling insider's tale and a celebration seen through the inkwell of those who created and lived it, balanced with insights from key historians and filled with interviews, archival footage and a dazzling parade of those forever riveting and splashy DC covers. From the bans to the breakthroughs, from humble pulp beginnings to the literary rise of the graphic novel, the story holds a mirror to an ever-evolving enterprise and the society reflected in its comic book pages.

Awesome!

This is a very interesting documentary about the Origin of many of the superheroes of DC comics, some of the events that inspire them, and some of the controversy that some issues created.

Inspiring in unexpected ways. A real joy to watch.

Great documentary about DC comics, beginning with the industries humble origins in the thirties to dominating the Hollywood of today. What I found surprising were some of the ground breaking stories that DC writers put out in the early 80's that really pushed the limits of the comic code that was established in the fifties. I want to read everything by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman now.

A very compelling watch for anyone interested in great storytelling!

You don't have to be a comic book fan to appreciate this film/documentary (if you are, then you cannot not watch this). The stories are so compelling - rich with detail, candor and wit, told in such a way that I was engaged from start to finish. One can only hope that the medium/genre will continually reinvent itself to maintain relevance in a myopic world on overdrive, in which so many people have lost the greater sense of community and compassion that so many of these superheroes (and their amazingly talented, visionary creates) sought to inspire in each of us.
