Plot Summary
Caught in the collision of two worlds, three gay and lesbian members of a conservative church wrestle with how to reconcile their faith and sexuality. David is a young man who spent five years in "ex-gay" therapy trying to become straight, but now he's falling in love with another man. Marcos was an Adventist pastor in Brazil who was fired for being gay. Can he find his calling again? And Sherri is a mom in the Midwest (along with her longtime partner) who wants her daughters to grow up with her faith and beliefs, even though she knows her church might not accept their family. Discovering you are gay in a close-knit faith community like Adventism often means loss and exile from all that has been home. Called the “best bridge-building film in this genre”, this character-driven documentary follows their raw and moving journeys as they wrestle with deep questions and struggle to find a place where they can integrate identity, love, and belief.

Timely and Sensitive
This film presents the issue of the struggle between remaining faithful to a faith culture and being true to ones personal identity. This issue of how homosexuality plays out in the Christian community is very current and very relevant. This film deals with this issue in a gentle and masterful way. As the father of a gay son, I found this film to be very moving and helpful. I hope that it will encourage Christians to open their minds and hearts to the struggles, the faith and the commitment of gay Christians.

This film has been wonderfully crafted to tell the story of these three individuals and their struggle to find a place where they belong in their church. As a Christian who has struggled with how to deal with the LGBT community and my understanding of Christianity, I found this film immensely eye opening and helpful. It is a powerful story with a message of love, compassion, empathy, and hope.

I saw this film at a screening over a year ago and again during the Dec holidays when I watched it with my SDA family. I've been out for over 10 years but being raised SDA and trying to reconcile that belief system/culture with being gay is still a struggle for me even though I'm no longer religious. This film portrays people wrestling with similar issues and raises many good questions and does it in a particularly compassionate way. It's definitely worth watching!
