Plot Summary

From the heat of the first look to the importance of our erotic fantasies, Kim Cattrall explores both the physical chemistry and the emotional complexity of raw sexual desire. Is it possible to develop a sexual intelligence? Can we unravel the mysteries of desire and fantasy? In "Sexual Intelligence," the actress (Sex and the City) and author (Satisfaction) who famously broadened our notions of modern sexuality, navigates a whimsical investigation into what turns us on and why. Drawing on mythology, history, master works of art, cheeky animation and candid interviews with a diverse group of sexual adventurers, sexologists and authors, Kim urges us to broaden and explore our own understanding of erotic desire--making us laugh all the while. From the glorious beaches of Cyprus--the mythical birthplace of love Goddess Aphrodite--to the site in England of a 200 year old, 26 ft long phallus, to the "Secret Museum" in Naples, where the erotic treasures of ancient Pompeii have been locked away for centuries, Kim takes us on a breathless tour of sexual significance and cultural discovery. Smart, arousing, and blush-worthy, "Sexual Intelligence" is Sex 101 for adults.

Yeah...

... It was good. But, it wasn't that interesting. It is a relevant topic to put on film, but to me, this was basic information. Some of the interviews were great, while others weren't that exceptional. In fact, at some point I felt some people were just being colorful for the sake of being colorful. So, their comments come off as sort of pedantic. Also, one guy comes off as a bit of douche for all sorts of reasons. But, what stuck out with me is at some point he says that "all men cheat" and then follows that by saying "... except for my dad.". This comes from misinformed, lowest common denominator, approach to a world view of sexuality. It excuses men [and even women] from taking responsibility for their actions and it is as if it becomes permissive to act in such a way. Which is concurrently why we're so dysfunctional in certain ideologies as a society. Now, there is actual statical proof that literally almost half of men do not cheat. It's an evolutionary genetic code in certain men. Yet, then there no one actually says, "women cheat". So, in that respect, why allow something so dysfunctional to said, and then no follow it with any rebuttals or alternative facts. Also, at no point do they mention poly-amorous lifestyles, or other aspects of sex or erotism. The film is well put together, and it was fun at some points. But, overall, it could've been more. I came away feeling that it was very much a puff piece and I wanted something more than cotton candy.

Fun to watch

There are some silly moments, but this is definitely one of the funniest documentaries I've ever seen! Gives you a good distraction, so good for carrying on iPod :)
