Plot Summary

American-born Ray Rehman comes home one night to find his Pakistani father on his doorstep. Ray's Caucasian mother threw him out. It's an awkward time for his father to move in as Ray just proposed to his Caucasian girlfriend - who hasn't given him an answer. While trying to get his parents back together, Ray meets a South Asian girl of mixed descent, just like him, and must decide where his identity truly lies.

Customer Reviews

quirky comedy about one of man's longest running struggles.

this film is assessable to all cultures. whether your heritage is mixed or if direct lineage you can relate to the characters struggles. shades of ray is the story of a man unsure what path to take. torn between two women he is forced to deal with his own struggles of self and family. it is wonderfully written with quirky characters and emotion. stellar performances by its all star cast. this first time writer/director is surely not just going to fade away quietly. boasting one of the best director cameo's since Hitchcock.

Superb

Shades of Ray is truly one of the best movies I've seen this year. Both Zachary Levi and Sarah Shahi both emit such genuine talent, adding to a quirky and wonderful cast. Dealing with family, race, and love in this light-hearted comedy, Shades of Ray is definitely a movie to see.

It didn

I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Rented it on a whim and the whim payed off.
the lead actor and gentleman playing his father are very funny.
Who knew ethnic self hatred could be told w/o offending yet examining the issue with appropriate humor.
