Greatest Sherlock Holmes Ever! Lots of Action But Not Today's Movie Kind!
Add me to the list of folks happy to see iTS has put some of these classic Sherlock Holmes on their store shelves. There are 14 original stories, a serial filmed between 1939 and 1949 I believe, sometimes based partially on Sir Arthur Conan Doyles stories, and sometimes not. But regardless, they stand on their own, as both intellectually stimulating, with lots of twists and turns, and plenty of fog and posions, great British character actors (Henry Daniell, Ian Wolfe), & B&W old movies ambiance. And of course the comic relief of Dr. Watson, for whom one can be excused for failing to see in him a man intelligent enough to be a doctor, let alone write down all of Holmes' exploits, but oh well. These are so enjoyable, and most are about 80 minutes, not too long if you want something light but mysterious.
