Plot Summary

Inspired by the troubled but ultimately triumphant life of classical pianist David Helfgott (Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush - "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "Shakespeare in Love"), this moving drama focuses on Helfgott's mental breakdown as a result of his smothering father and painful retreat into a private world while still in his early 20s and on the brink of a glittering international career. After a decade of total obscurity, Helfgott achieves both personal and professional fulfillment by finding peace on the very thing that drove him to the edge his music, as he also finds love and support from a remarkable woman. Starring Academy Award-nominee Lynn Redgrave ("Gods and Monsters," "Peter Pan"), and Academy Award-nominee Armin Mueller-Stahl ("Eastern Promises," "The Thirteenth Floor"). Directed by Academy Award-winner Scott Hicks ("Snow Falling on Cedars," "No Reservations").
