Plot Summary

Miles Fowler makes horror movies. Cheap, perverted, blood-soaked schlock-fests that few see and fewer enjoy. Wallowing in obscurity and desperate to make a name for himself, Miles happens upon a bizarre opportunity when he’s the sole witness to a brutal, real-life murder. Sensing a once-in-a-lifetime chance at artistic (and financial) glory, the z-level auteur decides to build his next project around his new “discovery” - serial killer Nick. But when he finds that Nick is in no way ready for his closeup, Miles must resort to that grandest of Hollywood traditions: blackmail. Pushed from the shadows into the spotlight, Nick has no choice but to learn his lines, hit his marks, and contain his homicidal urges. When cameras roll, however, “creative differences" might just put everyone's life in turnaround.

Customer Reviews

Unique for sure

Movie is super funny, really absurd premise of director blackmailing is believable and goes down well. Acting is rather good. Camera work rich. The turn to violence is shocking but stick with it, story pays off.

Sick, Slick, and Genuinely Clever

SHOCK VALUE is the sort of movie that horror was founded on: a low budget buffet of blood, sex and dark humor that's shamelessly entertaining and much smarter than non-genre fans would dare credit, but die hards will cheer. Part love-letter to shlock, part scathing condemnation of the “vulgar auteur.” Loved it.

Terrific!

Shock Value lures you in laughing through the comic pathos of a collection of LA misfits making a b level horror film, but after their lives intertwine, and begin to unravel, laughter gives way to terror and, ultimately, shock.
Brilliantly written by Anthony Bravo this independent gem comes alive under the masterful direction of Douglas Rath, who also edits.
The cast is all in.
Zak Hudson as director Miles, Michelle Campbell as ingenue Justine, Janelle Odair as ball busting Ashley and Anthony Bravo as serial killer Nick are all scary good, and each has soaring moments. The supporting cast is spot on and Malcolm McDowell serves up a delicious, Edmond Dean Huntley, an out-of-orbit, aging star of sleazy horror flicks.
Jeff Danna’s score and Jeffery A Cunningham’s camera work add edgy depth to the film.
Credit goes to producer Gregory Goodman for backing Bravo’s script, taking a chance on the up and coming cast, and bringing Rath, who is one to watch, aboard to direct.
Don’t miss this one!
