Must-see

To everyone affected by, or paying for, Sandy: watch this.

Shored Up

A timely documentary of the sobering reality of sea level rise as seen through two beach communities with the Army Corp mightily pumping sand. Great visuals and a compelling story.

Compelling -- among the very best of its genre

Every taxpayer in the US should see this movie, even if you live in Kansas or Wyoming; _especially_ if you live in far inland states and never go to the beach.
Shored Up describes how tens of billions of dollars of federal money are being spent to maintain beaches in front of wealthy vacation homes. The issues and challenges of coastal vulnerability to storms, combined with long-term sea level rise are presented well.
The movie also illustrates the local-scale socioeconomic inequities of our coastal management choices, but does so without becoming overly maudlin.
The visuals and editing are first-rate, and some of the dialogue is downright hilarious, particularly during the discussion of whether terminal groins should be allowed on the North Carolina coast.
