Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The director, Masayuki Ochiai, conjures textbook J-horror miasma: clammy clinical interiors; overcast skies; diffuse cityscapes. – Andy Webster, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Will the next terror-minded remake involve a possessed telegraph machine or a grudge-minded ox and cart? Neither option could be any lamer than the shock-free Shutter. – Clark Collis, Entertainment Weekly, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: A blandly cast and crafted remake of the same-titled 2004 Thai pic that itself emulated J-horror norms, which seemed a lot fresher back then. Low on real scares, atmosphere and character. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Strictly perfunctory in its concept and execution, Shutter presents the usual series of spooky images of a deadpan female ghost showing up at odd times and moving in the slow, jerky movements that are de rigueur for the genre. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

The year's worst horror film (behind One Missed Call)

This film was awful! I usually like movies like this but for some reason I was just not entertained by this stupid, pointless remake. It was also one of the most unintentially funny movies I've seen in a long time. It's definitely not worth the price of a ticket in movie theaters, and it's 100% not worth the $15 price iTunes has given it here. If you really want to see it that badly, just rent it. Otherwise, don't bother.

Horribly done..

This movie is one of those Japanese remakes that falls under the category of The Ring and The Grudge etc. This movie however wasn't original in very many ways. The acting was alright but the overall story was not very engaging. As for the scares, there may be some parts where it may shock those not ready for it, however for the horror movie buffs out there, this will not suffice for a good horror movie. Don't rent unless you are ready to be disappointed. The cover is scarier than any part in the movie.

BEST HORROR JAPAN MOVIE EVER!!!!

The movie was really great but I had no idea why they always do a remake from the old one and make new one, well old and new shutter are both amazing and the best 2.I would like to buy shutter unrated but not a oringnal dvd just only had the menu of play, lanuguage, and scene selection.THE BEST SHUTTER MOVIE REMAKE EVER!!! p.s. i watch lots of old movies years behind on 90's movie but that doesn't matter
