Rotten: Shyamalan's by-now trademark spookiness is starting to play like a CD consciously designed to duplicate the success of an album that sold 10 million copies. – Mike Clark, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A refreshing summer movie. – David Ansen, Newsweek, Nov 1, 2007

Fresh: One of the most effective movies so far at capturing a jittery nation's case of the yips. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Shyamalan is technically a superb film-maker, for all that he's picked up most of his tricks from Spielberg and Hitchcock. – Derek Adams, Time Out, Aug 17, 2007

One man's dark night of the soul

This movie confuses people. It was marketed as an "alien" movie; but while there are aliens, the movie really isn't about them. It's about Mel Gibson's character (Graham) and his struggle to believe in anything after losing his wife in a fatal accident. It's powerful both on that personal level and at the level of Graham's family learning to function as a family again. The isolation of the setting works wonderfully for the tale Shyamalan wants to tell, and there's plenty of suspense and fun to be had along with the psychological development. One of my very favorites.

M. Night Shyamalan took it to the next level!

This is a great movie, I remember the first time i saw this movie I freaked out when he saw the alien on the TV. The aliens look nothing like what we've imagined. All in all, I thought this was a good movie, and its (in my oppinion) that it was appropiate enough for my little sister. Not too much violence or swearing, so I was pretty happy!

My First Favorite Movie

This was the first movie i saw that wasnt a family comedy. The first time i saw it, I was 10 and i was terrifyed, yet i found that i couldt get enough. I have since seen many scary movies and fallen in love with M. Night Shymalan's films. This movie is subtle, and yet it can make you jump out of your seat. The acting and the directing are simple, but they make the movie work differently from any other. This is a great movie
