Plot Summary
When a young, unidentified woman is found dead by the lake - the victim of a brutal and violent crime – Walter (Peter Stormare), an aging small town police officer, is called to the scene of the town’s first murder investigation in decades. Haunted by his past, and hampered by both the mistrust of the community and a state police officer overseeing the investigation, he sets out to solve the murder. Further complicated by his ex-lover (Jill Hennessey) and her current boyfriend, the case absorbs Walter. As he delves deeper into the crime, his newly-reformed life begins to unravel threatening his relationship with Sam (Martha Plimpton) and intertwining itself within the investigation and possibly the murder itself.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Beneath a deceptive calm, it uncovers a core of fear and loathing as ominous as the backwoods world of "Winter's Bone."
Fresh: With his second feature, GassDonnelly achieves that longed-for thing, a whole greater than the parts, one in which each disparate element complements the other.
Fresh: An effective ensemble backed by a bracingly haunting soundtrack strike a compelling chord in this rural Canadian crime drama.
Rotten: Peter Stormare is a limited actor who only manages to exude the resolute nothingness of the role.
Customer Reviews
Great music, but, uhh...
...kinda light on plot and dialog. It's the music fan's movie. Not much more here than some really stiking and interesting music juxtaposed with some sort of striking cinematography. The actual substance in between montages is pretty boring and un-eventful, though the locals of this small town do have a certain tepidly eccentric charm. You can probably find a better movie to occupy your 1:15.
Great film
I saw this movie in a small art theatre and I fell in love with it. The score was amazing, the acting was great, the dialogue was spot on, and the directing was great as well. This is a movie that holds your attention to the end I got my money's worth when I saw it.
soooo boring
I have a long attention span but when the movie is so poorly written and the performances beyond boring and the loud, unnapealing music carries the movie…who cares...
