Plot Summary
A story of love lost and found in a small town, Snow Angels is a heartrending portrayal of three couples in various stages of life orbiting around each other in search of connection and meaning. An unexpected act of violence disrupts the lives of these intertwined couples revealing the profound moments in which they each realize how precarious and remarkable life can be. High school student Arthur plays trombone in the marching band, busses tables at the local Chinese restaurant and avoids his squabbling parents. At work, he flirts with Annie, who used to be his baby-sitter. Annie is trying to build a new life for herself and her daughter after splitting with high school sweetheart Glenn. A man with a troubled past, Glenn hopes to make a new start by getting a job and reconnecting with his family. At school, Arthur meets a pretty girl, Lila, who is just as nerdy as he is, and they quickly develop a crush on each other. Though Lila makes her feelings for Arthur painfully obvious, Arthur is reluctant to accept her advances as he watches his father move out of the family home while his mother struggles to keep things together. Determined to find happiness, Arthur begins to fall for the irresistible Lila, even as he witnesses Annie and Glenn tear each other apart in a series of distressing encounters at the same time as his parents begin separate lives. Then, on a cold winter morning, Glenn and Annie's past catches up with their future. In one shocking moment, all of the pain and struggle comes to a screeching halt. For them, and for everyone who knows them, nothing will ever be the same.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: David Gordon Green, among the most gifted of the young independent filmmakers, creates a mood that engulfs you in the lives of his characters.
Rotten: Enough with these meek, banal exercises, David Gordon Green. Hit me with the sledgehammer in your heart.
Fresh: What, after all, is Snow Angels? It feels like a comedy at first and is often blackly comedic, but it also reflects a universe in which each human spins alone.
Fresh: Snow Angels will please steadfast [David Gordon] Green fans, even if its star power makes it seem as if he's been inching toward the mainstream all along.

Well acted, lacks momentum
Snow angles is an emotional film that captures a few highs and too many lows of the human condition. The movie was well acted, yet the characters lacked motivation and seemed to have shallow backstories. The film is also paced poorly, and it didn't really engage me the way a good drama should. Roger More of The Orlando Sentinel wrote, "It's a movie that keeps its distance from the characters, so much that we can shudder at what we fear is to come but aren't really allowed to mourn the innocent trapped in this downward spiral."
Very Emotional Film
I've been waiting to see this movie for a long, LONG time, and I've got to say, it's very emotional to watch. Even though the movie ended the way it did, it still had amazing acting performances, especially by the lovely Kate Beckinsale. It is also a very well-written story that I believe anybody would be interested in seeing on film.
Riveting, Deep, Emotional
I found this to be one of those movies you remeber for a long time. Almost every character had their deep level brought to the fore to create a blend of both sadness and hope. It is quite a heavy movie but the astonishing Oscar calliber perfomance by Sam Rockwell makes it worthy of your time alone. The only thing that doesn't sell for me is Kate Beckinsale as a white trash woman who is still confusingly supposed to be tied to her ex. I have seriously considered my former optinion of her as a talented actress since watching this movie, unfortunately- sorry Kate! She could not sink to the level required to explore this character despite the stylists attempts at hiding her beauty. It is not her beauty that fails her, it's the lack of skill mentioned. That and the Director's lack of properly displaying the connection between her and her ex throughout the film are the only reason it is 4 stars. But really, none of this detracts from this being a poignant film with fantastic acting by Sam, Amy Sedaris and the young couple. This isn't easy to watch, but it is gratifying and worth the rental!
