Plot Summary
Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains rise 5000m from the heart of Africa. At their summits are some the only equatorial glaciers on Earth. But these “Mountains of the Moon, ” whose very existence caused a sensation in Europe when they were first climbed in 1906, are changing fast. Their glaciers have shrunk by more than 80% in the last century, and scientists predict that the remaining ice will disappear in less than 20 years. The future of the mountains, their remarkable endemic biodiversity, and the Bakonjo people who call them home is uncertain. Snows of the Nile follows Neil Losin and Nate Dappen, two scientists and photographers, on an ambitious expedition to re-capture historical glacier photographs from the Rwenzoris. If they could retrace the steps of the Duke of Abruzzi’s legendary 1906 ascent, brave the Rwenzoris' notoriously unpredictable weather, and re-capture Vittorio Sella's glacier photos, their images would bear witness to a century of climate change.

Beautiful cinematography and a powerful message
This film did a great job of illustrating the fast-changing nature of our world, making a strong point about the global impacts of climate change. The cinematography entices the viewer to take part in the journey and follow them up the mountains.
Well worth 20 mins of ones time.
Want to climb to the top of a tropical glacier?
This film allows you to do just that without leaving your couch.
I was lucky enough to witness this film develop from just an idea to a finished product and am so impressed with the result. I have seen this film multiple times at various festivals and continue to be captivated for the entire 20 minutes. Each time I view it I notice new beautiful shots that escaped me before. Definitely worth a watch... and another... and another!
Visually captivating
I have always been a big fan of nature documentaries and I can genuinely say that this one did not disappoint. I was a little skeptical at first because I thought it would mostly be footage of mountain ranges but boy was a wrong! The film makers did a great job of capturing the alien-like world leading up to these mountain peaks. The cinematography and attention to detail is what separates these pros from the amateurs.
