Plot Summary
Young restaurant owner Zinos is down on his luck. His girlfriend Nadine has moved to Shanghai, his Soul Kitchen customers are boycotting the new gourmet chef, and he‘s having back trouble! Things start looking up when the hip crowd embraces his revamped culinary concept, but that doesn‘t mend Zinos’ broken heart. He decides to fly to China for Nadine, leaving the restaurant in the hands of his unreliable ex-con brother Illias. Both decisions turn out disastrous: Illias gambles away the restaurant to a shady real estate agent and Nadine has found a new lover! But brothers Zinos and Illias might still have one last chance to get Soul Kitchen back if they can stop arguing and work together as a team.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Mr. Akin's vision of interconnectedness in the global village, while similar to that of a movie like Babel, is more casual and lighthearted.
Fresh: Nicely cast ensembler, centered on a hopelessly disorganized eatery owner and peopled by a weird collection of lovable eccentrics, is pacey entertainment that hardly puts a foot wrong.
Fresh: A lively, easygoing farce filled with high-energy music and amusing complications.
Rotten: There are moments of fun (an aphrodisiac-laced dessert, for example), but generally the humor seems warmed-over.
Customer Reviews
i liked it...but then again, i'm weird
I like food movies and although there was very little "food" or "kitchen" for that matter, it was an enjoyable film. cliche'd to the max--but well acted.
Predictable, clichéd and heavy-handed
A cast of clichés, the curmudgeon with a heart just the beginning. Scene after scene from the handbook for Hollywood hacks: woman passing out just in time to frustrate man who wants to have sex, unhip guy dancing like a 70s disco dude. Plot is just a series of set-ups and pay-offs. Another heavy-handed German comedy.
Spirit of Hamburg
You won't understand this movie in full unless you grew up in Hamburg. This movie made be home sick. Well done.
