Plot Summary
There's a revolution underway in South America, but most of the world doesn't know it. Oliver Stone sets out on a road trip across five countries to explore the social and political movements as well as the mainstream media's misperception of South America while interviewing seven of its elected presidents. In casual conversations with Presidents Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Lula da Silva (Brazil), Cristina Kirchner (Argentina), as well as her husband and ex-President Nestor Kirchner, Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), and Raul Castro (Cuba), Stone gains unprecedented access and sheds new light upon the exciting transformations in the region.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Because so little has been made in the United States about South America's leftward continental drift, South of the Border is a valuable, if naively idealistic, introductory tutorial on a significant international trend.
Fresh: The film is rose-colored agitprop, but it catches a current of history.
Rotten: Stone has a crucial, overlooked viewpoint to impart, but as a documentary filmmaker, his content and technique are not terribly engaging.
Rotten: Unabashedly one-sided.

What
An excellent job of telling a story that is unknown in the US. Namely, that South America for the first time in it's sad history is on the mend. Natural resources are benefiting it's own people. Poverty levels are plumetting. This is happening as their "dependence" on the US and the IMF are is diminishing. They simply don't need us. They can do it for themselves.
I appreciated that Stone was able to assemble all the luminaries of the Bolivar movement in one film. It's very upbeat. I wish we had a little more of what they got.
PS - shame on the US media for consitently promoting the views of the money people.
SOUTHERN COMFORT
Good counterpoint to the MSM a.k.a. (VRWC) - depicts the rise of populism in So-Am where people build coalitions and voting blocks to conduct representative government in spite of Imperial interference. " For the people & by the people -you remember the tune. "And if you can't recall the singer you can still recall the tune." NOT for the autistically challenged.
