Plot Summary
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Academy Award®-winning "South Pacific" is a towering musical masterpiece and the tender love story of a naive young Navy nurse (Mitzi Gaynor) and an older French Plantation owner (Rossano Brazzi) on a U.S. occupied South Sea island. The breathtaking score is highlighted by some of the most romantic songs ever written: "Some Enchanted Evening," "There is Nothin' Like a Dame," "Younger Than Springtime" and more. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, South Pacific ranks among the most celebrated of Rodgers and Hammerstein's acclaimed musicals.

Beautiful Views & Sounds
This movie isn't in my top tier of musicals, but it is a very good movie none the less. Both bright and happy, sad and deep, and many a great tune. Rent first if you have not seen it yet, as it may not be for you. It's worth ten bucks, if you like musicals from the golden era.
Amazing
South Pacific is such an underrated masterpiece! It's up there with the likes of Phantom and West Side Story! It's a 'diamond in the rough.' Love, love, love this musical!
Exhilarating reprises
Some fault this show for having too many reprises on stage but the score and lyrics are exhilarating and occasionally breathtaking. After The Sound of Music this is second best musical ever!
