Plot Summary

Burning Man, the annual weeklong experiment in community, art, and radical self-expression, has grown famous for inspiring ordinary people to shed their 9-to-5 existence and act on their dreams. Spark: A Burning Man Story goes behind the scenes of the event, following Burning Man organizers and participants as they prepare and plan the yearly experience. The doc reveals the dedication and organization that go into making the “anything goes” occasion a success, and sheds light on the obstacles the organizers face moving forward. This is an eye-opening look at a life-changing experience. A FilmBuff Presentation.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Since we can't all attend Burning Man, we can be thankful for "Spark," which is probably the next best thing. – Andy Webster, New York Times, Aug 15, 2013

Rotten: More time spent on the ground, and with the attendees, would have been ideal, especially since this may be as close as many viewers get to joining in. – Geoff Berkshire, Variety, Aug 16, 2013

Fresh: As an official history, Spark shines adequate light; I just wish it had spent a little more time on the shadows. – Pete Vonder Haar, Village Voice, Aug 13, 2013

Rotten: Perhaps most surprising, even the festival footage is ho-hum. We feel a distance, instead of being flies on the wall. (Or should we say, on the desert floor?) – David Lewis, San Francisco Chronicle, Sep 5, 2013

Customer Reviews

Really interesting, even for a non-Burner!

I was dragged to this movie by some friends who have been to Burning Man before, and, though I had no previous knowledge, I really enjoyed it! It's an amazing filmic experience, following interesting artists and the people that founded the festival. Incredible footage of the art, awesome music, really interesting stories. I'm surprised to say I loved it!

Inspiring!

Great movie that captures the story, the people, and the feel of Burning Man - but without getting sand everywhere.
