Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The most courageous thing about it, from today's standards, is that it closes without an obligatory happy ending, and an audience that has watched for 187 minutes doesn't get a tidy, mindless conclusion. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: This may be the most literate of all the spectacles set in antiquity. – Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Douglas is terrific as the iron-jawed slave fuelled by righteous fury. – James Christopher, Times [UK], Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: The great-granddaddy of Ridley Scott's Gladiator hasn't lost any muscle tone after nearly half a century, and Kirk Douglas's direct, unpretentious performance as the great slave-rebel Spartacus is more engaging than ever. – Peter Bradshaw, Guardian, Jun 24, 2010

Good Classic Movie

I remember seeing this movie in middle school. The acting and the costumes are good. The action makes up for the bad makeup and ketchup blood. It's longer than your average film. The only real slow parts are the luvy-duby scenes and political chats in Rome. I personally enjoy the first half of the show over the second but overall it's a good movie to watch on a date night.

Great movie! I can't wait to replace it with the HD Version for my Apple TV. As soon as it's for sale in HD, I'm getting all the Kubrick films again!
