Best Horror Film of 2008

As an entertainment writer, I see plenty of bad movies, a decent amount of good ones, and a few great ones. I would call "Splinter" great. Being a horror afficionado, I can say that "Splinter" was easily among the best horror films to come out in 2008. My absolute favorite of the year. A great creature flick with tight pacing, good acting, a beautiful lead, compelling characters, and wonderful bits of horror violence. This is one horror flick not to be missed.

definitely worth owning

Firstly it should be noted that "Splinter" has one of the most inventive monsters in decades -- that alone is enough of a reason to check it out -- but the story and characters make the movie work on a level that many big-budget films do not. I hope the filmmakers get bigger and bigger budgets to work with, I think they've proven they know how to make a thoroughly compelling film.

Very pleasant surprise

Got this "On Demand" through my cable company, and found it to be a really nicely crafted old-school horror movie. Reminded me a lot of the late-seventies, early-eighties horror movies that cut right to the chase. There are some genuinely creepy moments (the way the "infected" people move is disturbing), and it's well worth owning. If you're looking for a gory, entertaining, no-nonsense return to good horror, look no further.
