Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Here comes a sequel that's worth its salt. The second Star Trek movie is swift, droll and adventurous, not to mention appealingly gadget-happy. It's everything the first one should have been and wasn't. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: There is something comfortable, even old-shoeish, about the new film, a sense, appropriate to its theme of coming to terms with middle age, that all aboard are pleasurably rediscovering their best selves. – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Star Trek II is a very satisfying space adventure, closer in spirit and format to the popular TV series than to its big-budget predecessor. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Although I liked the special effects in the first movie, they were probably not the point; fans of the TV series wanted to see their favorite characters again, and Trek II understood that desire and acted on it. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

One of the best Star Trek films!

Next to the recent reboot and First Contact, this is one of the best Star Trek films ever! Great acting from Shatner and Montalban, and the rest of the cast, an ending that actually brought me to tears when I first saw it! And I am not a die hard Trekkie so if the movie can do that to a casual fan of Star Trek, than that is a good sign right there!

The Classic Continues

This is one of my favorite movies (of any genre, not just sci-fi). The ending made it an instant classic. I suggest watching Season 1, episode 22, Space Seed, followed by this movie. A very enjoyable combination.

Keeps me coming back again and again...

I've seen all the Star Trek movies many times, but I still keep coming back to this one as my favorite -- with Star Trek III following at a close second. Really, the two go together and are packed with emotion enhanced by one of the most moving soundtracks I've ever heard. I've loved this movie since I was a child, and strongly recommend it to anyone.
