Plot Summary

It's the 23rd century, and a mysterious alien power is threatening Earth by evaporating the oceans and destroying the atmosphere. The Best One By the Original Cast and Crew

This movie is simply great. Its humor is very funny, and I can find myself quoting lines in different situations ("Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?" or "I love Italian. And so do you.") Some parts don't age well ("Noo-clee-are Wessels!") unless considered in context, but others are perfect ("[Scotty] I've travelled millions of miles - [Bones] thousands - [Scotty] thousands of miles, all the way from Edinburgh!"). Either way, this is a great movie and the best of the original cast/crew movies. Synopsis: In the future Earth is under attack from a mysterious alien probe of unknown origin. The crew of the destroyed Enterprise, travelling from Vulcan to face judgement on Earth in a Klingon Bird of Prey, are warned of the probe and devise a plan to travel back in time and do what is necessary to save their (and our) home. Half-human and half-vulcan, Spock is somewhat shocked by this strange old world and finds conflict between his innately emotional and logical sides. Meanwhile the rest of the crew finds difficulty adjusting to 1986 culture.

Great Movie in spite of.....

Probably the best Star Trek movie of the bunch in spite of the manic hippy zoologist (gawd! she was irritating). My admiration to Kirk and Spock for not B***h smacking her across SF Bay. Still an action packed and fun flick Funny though, it was San Francisco and we do not see one Gay person. I was waiting for Spock to notice a couple and say, "That is not Logical". :-)

The Best of the Star Trek Movie Franchise

Hands down, this is the best Star Trek movie out of all of them. Some of the movies featuring the original cast come close, but this one wears the crown. The movies featuring the Next Generation cast are entertaining, no doubt, but they pale in comparison to The Voyage Home. This movie brings the science fiction of Star Trek down to Earth (literally) and puts the Star Trek characters in the United States in the 1980s. The strength of this movie is how the characters relate to the then modern day urbanites of San Francisco. Because this movie provides an outside look on the U.S. during the 80s, it can be enjoyed not only by Star Trek fans, but also by the casual observer who may have little interest in the franchise. Watch it! Enjoy it! You won't be disappointed!
