Plot Summary

The greatest adventure of all time begins with Star Trek, the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James Kirk (Chris Pine), is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock (Zachary Quinto), was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: With Star Trek Abrams honors the show's legacy without fossilizing its best qualities. Instead, he's whisked it off to a planet where numbing nostalgia can't kill it, and where the future is still something to look forward to. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Did somebody just reach through the space-time continuum and pull out a white rabbit? – Tom Charity, CNN.com, Aug 4, 2013

Fresh: In going back to tell the Enterprise story from the beginning, Star Trek presses collective emotional buttons people didn't even know they had. At its best, the effect is like seeing life panoramically, past and future, simultaneous and magnificent. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Star Trek goes back to the legend's roots with a boldness that brings a fatigued franchise back to life. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, Jun 24, 2010

An exciting new Star Trek for the 21st century

This movie makes the very risky but deliberate choice of NOT slavishly adhering to every last detail of previously-established Star Trek minutiae. Instead, it gleefully casts off decades of accumulated cruft and returns to the breathtaking spirit that instilled the original series at its beginning. Long-time Star Trek fans who are shocked at the "changes" (OMG, the phasers look different! etc.) are missing the big picture -- the action is quick, the writing is sharp, and the classic characters are still the archetypes that originally made them classic, all while feeling completely contemporary and alive. The effects are spectacular (the Enterprise rising out of the mists of Titan ROCKS) and the battle sequences are bombastic, but the characters and story always come first. And because the story unfolds in a bit of a non-linear fashion, there are many plot details that may not seem right at first sight but actually make perfect sense in later context. In short, this movie holds up VERY well to multiple viewings, remaining extremely entertaining and continuning to surprise with its wealth of attention to detail. I am looking forward to the Blu-Ray release with all its extras!

Best Movie Since the Dark Knight

This was without a doubt, the best movie of the entire summer.I expected it to be good, but it was phenomenal, and it was just as good when i saw it the second time. I really wish transformers 2 could've been this good, but oh well.

Even my wife liked it!

I loved most is the Star Trek spin offs. I saw this movie twice which is against my rules. The second time I took my Star Trek hating wife and now she wants to own the video. This may bridge the gap between trekees and non trekees.
