Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Turns the complicated dynamic between a young prisoner and his problematic mentor into a ferocious psychodrama that locks you in and refuses to let you go.
Fresh: O'Connell bristles with terrifying hair-trigger unpredictability. Watching him, you feel like you're witnessing the arrival of a new movie star.
Fresh: Starred Up is a small indie film in danger of slipping through the cracks at the Hollywood-driven multiplex. Finding it - in theaters or on VOD - is well worth the effort.
Fresh: It marries ferocious, unnerving violence and waves of profanity to powerful, psychologically acute performances in a way that is intensely dramatic as well as almost unbearable to watch at times.
Customer Reviews
Amazing, and thoroughly engaging.
I have seen some amazing movies come out of Europe (besting even those from Hollywood) and this movie seems to be continuing the trend. Watching this movie with a 20 year veteran of the NYPD, he stated that everything was extremely realistic (more so than any American cop show he has ever seen), and the acting by the lead was so convincing, I found myself hating him by the end of the movie (where I usually feel nothing for the stars in most movies I watch). This, it turns out, is the mark of a great actor; one that can make you feel something, instead of completely apathy. I am thorough impressed by this film, and would recommend it to anyone that wants to see what real talent, dedication, and ability can produce.
Best Movie of 2014
This is by far THE. BEST. MOVIE. to come out in 2014…Wanted to watch it a second time immediately afterward.
Breathe Taking.
I have been waiting for this movie for a while. The style of filming and the cast are truly amazing. I could not see anyone else in this film, or playing the lead played byJack O’Connell. You have to see this film, it is one of those films that seems on the edge of not know where it will go, but in the end it was perfect and you would change nothing.
