Plot Summary

Starsuckers is a film about the celebrity-obsessed media that uncovers the real reasons behind our addiction to fame and blows the lid on the corporations and individuals who profit from it. Made completely independently over two years in secret, the film journeys through the dark underbelly of the modern media. Using a combination of never before seen footage, undercover reporting, stunts and animation, the film reveals the toxic effect the media is having on all of us and especially on our children.

Customer Reviews

an incredible documentary

This film should be a must see for all children throughout the country. Absolutely brilliantly done!

Great Documentary!

Helps to see why and how sites like TMZ promotes the Kardashian clan of trash for every silly thing they do, making legitimate businesses out of stupidity and human garbage, and how that pattern ripples throughout Hollywood. Loved the presentation, and how interesting it was.

Could be better

Good movie, but there's a big piece missing

There is very little emphasis on the consolidation of media companies and the fact that there are really 5-7 companies that control 95% of the media we consume. Also, that they own the entertainment and news outlets is a huge deal. There is very little about this issue and its a shame because it explains a lot of what is left ambiguous throughout the film. There is one reference to Murdoch and his connection to the British tabloids and the hacking scandal, but it goes a lot deeper.

Otherwise, the stuff on Live 8 was very interesting. The makers of this film are obviously British because there is a bias to talk about British celebrity culture vs. American culture but I suspect it's run very similarly.
