Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The picture would be nothing, an incomplete Venn diagram, without Murphy.
Fresh: Beam yourselves aboard Sunshine, set 50 years in the future. The voyage works, beautifully.
Fresh: On sci-fi's crowded table Boyle serves a fresh feast for our eyes, minds and hearts.
Rotten: At a certain point, like a dying star about to pop into eternal nothingness, the movie can't be seen as anything -- it just implodes.

Scarier than I thought, pretty good
I watched this movie late at night on my computer with all the lights off and my headphones on. It is a lot scarier than I thought. I was hoping for a movie that would make me think and entertain me at the same time. But it turned out to be a movie that made me feel. I felt like I was on the ride on the spacehip with the rest of the crew, and I didn't know what was going to happen next. I didn't know who was going to live or die, and I didn't know if they were going to make it back to Earth at the end or not. You might call it a psychological thriller more than science fiction. I was hoping for more scenes of the Earth, but almost the whole movie is on the spaceship. Also, there are no love scenes or any humor. You really have a sense of isolation the whole time since there are 8 people on board the Icarus and they are about 2 years away from the Earth. So if anytthing goes wrong, there is no one else to help. It does make you think about the long term effects of space travel. I would say this movie is worth renting but not worth owning.
Great Sci-Fi Thriller
Fans of smart science-fiction won't be let down by this dark, atmospheric and intriguing sci-fi thriller from director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland. Those looking for slam-bam action and slime-dripping aliens should look elsewhere. This film is more about mood and atmosphere. The script is solid, as are the performances. The pacing is just right, and the film really builds up the tension and creepiness for maximum effect. Very well done.
Well done...until the last part
The movie is visually stunning and well-acted for the most part, but completely blows all its good work with a silly, wanna-be-horror-movie ending that destroys what would have been a great movie.
