Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: This well-acted film captures a generational and occupational sliver of New York life that rings true. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jan 24, 2013

Fresh: In its sharply etched sketches of personal and professional frissons, Supporting Characters belies the modesty of both its lo-fi setup and its self-effacing title. – Andrew Schenker, Village Voice, Jan 22, 2013

Fresh: Schechter made the whole thing for about $50,000, without any A-list names. And yet it's sharper and more entertaining than most of the movies to come out this month at 10 times the budget - or well beyond. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Jan 24, 2013

Fresh: Supporting Characters tends to meander pleasantly from scene to scene, relying on the testy rapport between its two lead actors. – Mike D'Angelo, AV Club, Jan 24, 2013

Great indie comedy

A great comedy that has real depth and finds humor in the complexities and contradictions of relationships. Alex Karpovsky (from 'Girls') gives a stand-out performance as a guy struggling to sort out his loyalties to his best friend (Tarik Lowe) and his girlfriend (Sophia Takal) while being tempted by a young actress (Arielle Kebbel) and suffering the slings and arrows of his melancholy boss (the always great Kevin Corrigan). What I really like about the film is that it derives its humor from showing people as they actually are and relationships that ring true to life which makes it all the funnier because it's all the more relatable. Each character and situation had me thinking 'Man, that is exactly how life is.' Definitely worth checking out.

GREAT indie movie!

Fun, funny, high production quality, and great writing...... I paid $7 to rent it early instead of Netflix for free in a few months, and was glad I did. I wish there were more movies like this available each week.

Supporting Characters review

I rented this not thinking it would be much but it was actually pretty amazing. The main characters are funny, like-able, honest guys. A few thumbs up.
