Plot Summary
Michelle Williams plays twenty-eight-year-old Margot, happily married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a good-natured cookbook author. But when Margot meets Daniel (Luke Kirby), a handsome artist who lives across the street, their mutual attraction is undeniable. Swelteringly hot, bright and colorful, Take This Waltz leads us, laughing, through the familiar, but uncharted question of what long-term relationships do to love, sex and our image of ourselves.

Fresh: Polley (who's been an actress herself) never judges these people she's created. Instead, she depicts the giddy, fleeting and illusory nature of new love, and lets us get caught up in it, too.
Fresh: Polley wonders the same thing in nearly every scene, no matter who's in it. Is a comfortable marriage really marriage enough?
Fresh: At its worst, Polley's style veers toward the cornball. Yet, in the broad outlines of her story, she has clearly created something with a lot of hard truth.
Rotten: Basically pretty humourless, considering that sharp comics Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman are in the cast, clearly doing their level best as actors. But there's no air for them to breathe.

A Great Movie you'll either Hate or Love
I was torn between 4.5 or 5 stars. But I had to go with 5, because the stuff that bothered me was me, not the movie. There could be a genre called 'Why Marriage' or something like that. It would include this film, Blue Valentine, Kissing Jessica Stein; all worthy of five stars (if you liked them, you'll probably like this film and if not…). All these are hated by my wife, who hates that I like them, and can't fathom the alternate reality of a world where marriage doesn't exist, (along with other human heady incarcerating contrivances that seem so unnatural, like living for money). She, like many, will think I hate the relationship and her, which isn't true at all. It's the imposition, and sadistic expectation of sacrifice that society places on us and we place on ourselves under the 'covenant' ( a pretty word for rule of law) of marriage. You cannot know who you will be five or ten years from now, let alone till death do you part. It's all much better explored with art, like this film, than with the limitation of my words.
Anyway, I love it that people keep making films like this; on this subject. Michelle Williams is always amazingly immersed in her roles. I have no idea who she could really be. But I know her characters intimately.
Incredible! This film will be one of the very few I will buy.
I rarely review.
Having been sick the past 6 months, I've watched EVERY film released for rental on iTunes. This leaves all the others in the dust.
- the acting is superb...so good it felt more voyeuristic than scripted
- the film contains one of the most genuinely funny scenes I've ever seen (the pool)
- the film contains THE most erotic scene I've ever seen, and without a single physical touch. I was squirming and so will you. Intense and amazing.
- a genuinely believable and relatable story....

I can't imagine anyone not loving this film and the emotional ride it takes you on.
Bad movie
The consensus in this viewer's room is that we just watched a non movie movie. No emotion and no feelings. We spent two hours feeling nothing and questioning why we continued to watch. I would give myself one star for my judgment in continuing to sit through the movie if possible. Save yourself from this pointless "movie."
