Watch before you see the Summer 2009 remake

This is a classic and although the remake will probably have a lot of splashy special effects, I doubt it will match the real NYC feel of the 1970s version

Moves like a runaway train....

A superior adaptation (from the novel), this script moves the action along with the speed of a runaway train, given voice by some great actors. If you insist, rent it then buy. However, you'll wish you had bought it in the first place.

I enjoyed watching this movie after 25+ years

This movie is so great. I saw it as a kid and wanted to see it again as a refresher before seeing the remake that is coming out soon. It's more of a comedy from what I remembered but it's funny to watch because of the dialogue, the primitive technology and seeing NYC in it's younger state. $.35 for a subway ride! $1-million in ransom money - times sure have changed.
